Over 16s can grab a jab at Watford’s ‘Super Sunday’ and other walk-in clinics

Watford’s super-sized ‘pop-up’ COVID-19 vaccination centre at Vicarage Road Stadium returns on 22 August – and this time Pfizer jabs are open to anyone aged 16 and over for first doses and for others to get second doses when they are due.

The ‘Super Sunday’ clinic is open for walk-ins or booked appointments from 10am until 6pm. It is designed to support the town’s efforts to reduce infection rates and give people better protection by providing them with their first dose or second dose (for those who have received their first dose at least 8 weeks ago).

The first dose of the vaccine will provide 80% protection against hospitalisation and that figure rises to around 95% after two doses. Latest estimates from Public Health England (PHE) suggest that the vaccination programme has prevented over 22 million infections and 60,000 deaths to date in England.

Dr Asif Faizy, Board GP Watford and Three Rivers and Locality Chair said: “Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones, so please come down to the stadium for your first dose or your top-up second dose of Pfizer.”

People who go along won’t need to provide ID and don’t need to be registered with a GP, nor be worried that their immigration details will be passed on.

If you would prefer the certainty of a booked appointment, go to www.watford.gov.uk/supersunday or call 01923 278616 (open Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm and closes at 3pm on Friday 20 August) and a member of staff will make a booking on your behalf. Alternatively, you can walk up on the day without an appointment, but please be prepared to queue to enter the stadium.

Entry to the stadium will be from outside The Hornets shop and down Occupation Road. The stadium is fully wheelchair accessible and disabled parking is available. A managed queueing system will be in place to ensure social distancing is maintained and face masks must be worn at all times when inside the building (unless exempt).
